WILDLIFE RESCUE PROCEDURES
- Cover animal with towel approximately its size from head to toe. This protects your hands and the animal, too.
- Place animal in a box relative to animal's size with another towel on the bottom. Note: use towels without loose threads or holes.
- Close top of box. DO NOT punch holes in container with the animal inside. Write your name, address, phone number, and where animal was found on the box. DO NOT feed or give animal any water as that may
complicate its injuries and/or recovery.
- Call WSI at (916) 546-1211 and follow directions. We are ON CALL 24 hours a day for emergencies.
NEVER risk injury to yourself or others. You should leave someone at the scene to monitor area and avoid further injury to the animal if possible. If near a road or highway, place flares to alert oncoming traffic.
Call WSI FIRST before the rescue of raptors or medium to large animals.
